the recurring frenemy

 instant flashes of the past

pay no heed lest it pulls you in

to supposed mistakes and bygones

it has such power;  fight it

or be sucked in

into mindless games of regrets

what’s in the past should be past

but it has a way

of shaping the future

let the determinant be something positive
